Toilets

Do you have a leaky toilet or does the water run continuously?

The porcelain portion of the toilet (the material which the toilet is constructed), could last a lifetime, unless it somehow is cracked beyond repair.  However, the tank of the toilet is the storage unit for the major functioning components of the toilet: fill valve, filler float, overflow tube, flush valve, tank flapper, pull rod and handle.  Eventually, these components do malfunction, causing the toilet to run continuously, due to normal wear and tear and need replacing.  On the other hand, in some cases, it is not the actual toilet itself, but the mainline may be clogged, causing the toilet to leak from the base requiring, it to be snaked electronically snaked or jetted.  The mainline are the pipes which carries the waste outside of the home to the sewer or septic.

If you should decide to “go green” by conserving water, a low flush toilet can easily be installed.  These toilets operate with 1.6 gallons per flush or less compared to the older toilets using 3.5-7.5 gallons.  A low flush toilet can save you up to 18,000 gallons of water per year.  The largest daily user of water in the home is the toilet, which account for approximately 27% of residential indoor use, so flush wisely!!

Common Problems:

Base of toilet leaking: If the base of the toilet is leaking it could be something as simple as a loose wax ring caused by a broken toilet flange.  Or there is a good chance of a main line stoppage, especially if other fixtures are clogged as well.   A mainline stoppage is when your main sewer line is clogged and your drainage system does not drain properly.  Quick Action Plumbers is equipped with the latest technology for clearing stoppages, accompanied with a free camera video inspection, if deemed necessary, after the stoppage has been cleared.  The video inspection provides a clear picture of the inside of the system, without having to bust up flooring or digging.

Leaky supply line: Once a leak has been detected take immediate action; these small leaks can turn into larger leaks often causing flooding in the home until water is turned off, causing thousands of dollars in damage.  The best solution  to prevent these unwanted floods, are to check supply lines on all fixtures making sure all are water tight and in sound condition.

Not flushing well: All toilets flush slower over time and the most common cause is a buildup of mineral deposits in the holes under the rim. Home experts would suggest that you use muriatic acid and pour it through the system. We at Drain Doctors strongly suggest you call us first. Muriatic is a highly corrosive toxic acid with highly dangerous fumes. One mistake can be very painful, or worse. The technicians of Drain Doctors are highly trained in the use of dangerous liquids and will provide a solution without any possible pain to you.

Rocking toilet: Most toilets rock simply because the toilet is not secured on a level floor.  A quick fix would be to repair the flange, add shims and grout the base of the toilet, providing the toilet with a solid foundation to rest on.
